As the Graduate Music Fellow at the Presser Foundation, I had the opportunity to interview Badie Khaleghian, one of the recipients of the Graduate Music Award and ask about his project, Sounds of Freedom. Badie is a DMA student at Rice University, and I had been following his artistic projects for a few years. Through this interview, I got a chance to meet him and talk to him about his creative process and his activism work.
Tell me a little about yourself, where you are from, where you are located now, and your project.
How was the selection process for your collaborators? Did your initial ideas change? What were the ideas behind each one the composed pieces?
How is your art integrated with activism? Why is it important to focus social issues in our contemporary world?
