Music has always been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember, and pursuing an education pathway in my music degree has been one of the most important decisions I have made. I knew I wanted to focus my musical passions on education when I worked with the United Sound program in my high school. This program allowed me to assist in teaching string instruments to students in the non-traditional classroom, who would not normally get an opportunity to learn an instrument. Since then, my focus and passion has not only been on music in general, but creating an educational environment that is open and accessible to everyone.
The Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award provided me with the opportunity to further my education, so that I can become the inclusive and successful teacher I strive to be.
During my studies at Georgia College & State University, I have been able to immerse myself in playing several different genres of music, such as classical, jazz, choral, and funk. I have also had the opportunity to be on the leadership board of the Collegiate National Association for Music Education group on my campus. On top of this, I have played with almost every ensemble at the university including bands, choirs, and orchestras. I have also attended the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference several times, and plan to present a seminar as well in the upcoming year. I love to stay involved in all aspects of music in my campus community as well as the state community and will continue to stay involved in my community’s music during and beyond college.
This amazing award provided me with the opportunity to better myself as a musician and educator, and I look forward to representing the Foundation with great pride. This generous donation is such a great help. The Presser Foundation Undergraduate Scholar Award allowed me to focus on my studies with much less financial stress during my final year. I feel incredibly grateful to be a recipient of this award, and I am so excited to further my studies.
